Tunis’s Vibrant Medina – Souks, Mosques, and Monuments

Country: tunisia

The Ancient Quarter of Tunis, the Medina, is exceptionally well preserved and still a bustling center of daily life. Join me on this interactive live virtual tour packed with traditional culture and grand architecture, and see how the locals live. With views of the Zitouna Mosque minaret from every corner, we’ll explore the intertwining sections of the bustling souks, overflowing with merchandise. Before entering the covered souk, we’ll begin our livestream tour at the Kasbah and enjoy the facade of the Hamouda Pacha Mosque. Established in the 13th century, the labyrinthine covered souk has vaulted roofing that lets in the daylight. We’ll explore the endless shops full of beautiful, vibrant fabrics, exotic perfumes, expensive jewels, traditional hope chests and dowry boxes, and fantastic traditional baked goods and foods. A true feast for the eyes! In sharp contrast are the tranquil surrounding alleys and neighborhoods. White walls and ironwork, green-tiled domes, yellow and blue doors framed with delicate patterns of carved stone. The breathtaking intricacy of the inlaid stone carvings is a testament to the craftmanship of the original artisans. I look forward to sharing with you the stunning architecture and rich heritage of Tunis on this live-stream walking tour. You’ll be able to ask me questions and chat with fellow participants as we explore this grand Medina. Y’alla, let’s go!
